Are There Genuine Advantages to Aspirin Cancer Prevention?

The choice not to become a physician was something I regretted after some dear to me fell prey to cancer. Since cancer cures are still nonexistent, though, I wonder if I could have achieved much to aid him even so. The possibilities of aspirin cancer prevention are being researched at the moment, though, and that is good news.

There are strong indications in very recent studies that tell us that aspirin could help us in preventing cancer. This is nothing short of phenomenal, especially when you consider how easily you can obtain aspirin. The idea of simply taking oral medicaments for preventing the growth of cancer really strikes a chord in me because my own loved one perished far too early due to his reluctance to undergo the pain of chemo.

If my father (or his doctor) did find out about this, it would still have been too late anyway since aspirin helps more for prevention than cure. In the studies, the people who took the prescribed amounts of aspirin by the scientists had fewer among them who developed cancer. The pace of metastasis was also reduced for those who already had the ailment and were also taking aspirin.

According to the researchers, one cancer may react quite variably from another when exposed to the substance. A number of cancers, including prostate and colon cancer, wer observed to react most adversely to aspirin and were powerfully limited by it. The type that my dad suffered from was cancer of the colon.

Meanwhile, a research study led by Oxford professor Dr. Peter M. Rothwell observed that the risk of esophageal cancer was reduced by a staggering 75% and of the common colorectal cancer by 40-50%. An expert involved in the studies noted that it would thus be wise to start considering aspirin as a preventative for cancer. Those who endorse the drug as a potential cancer-preventor say, however, that even more studies have to be conducted before anything final is said and that people should watch how much of the drug they do consume.

Just about all medicaments have bad side-effects when their consumption is not regulated. Internal bleeding may be a consequence of overdoing your aspirin consumption, for instance. It shows that any drug can turn from blessing to curse if you overdo it.

There are some people in the medical field who are still on the fence about the drug. There exist some scientists who claim no connection between aspirin and the development/hindrance of cancerous cells. Since these studies did not administer aspirin every day to the subjects, however, they are considered suspect.

There remain a few queries too about the value of the Oxford-based studies supporting aspirin's worth as a cancer preventor, however, a they were actually meant to study not aspirin and cancer prevention but aspirin and cardiovascular complication prevention. There are countries where doctors often suggest regular consumption of baby aspirin for those with weak hearts. Cancerous cells are quite another matter, though.

There are a few measured responses, though: the people who acnowledge the benefits of the research but do so under qualification. An example would be one of the leaders of the American Cancer Society, who noted that he was positive about the studies but not necessarily endorsing the drug yet. The general idea, as a Harvard-based professional noted, is that the research is meant to stimulate more research that can give us a final answer as to whether or not it can really help us.

I myself did not go to medical school, so I am not well-versed in these things. Nevertheless, my loved one died due to the sickness, which I hope they shall be able to quash eventually. I hope that with time and more research on aspirin cancer will become less common.
