Offbeat Techniques for How to Lose Weight

Most people know the drill already when they come to the query of how to lose weight. The usual chorus consists of being active, cutting down on your intake, etcetera. Have you ever wondered if there are minor adjustments that could supplement these, though?

To that end, you can try a number of offbeat techniques to supplement the usual things. They do not go against the concepts involved in how to lose weight the healthy way either. The ideas that follow are excellent if you want to do everything you can to get to your desired weight more quickly.

The first tip has to do with what hues your dishes have. Bizarre though it may sound, it is in fact something to think about. The hues of dishes, allege psychologists, can exert some influence on the portions people take in when eating.

This is not yet a final scientific fact, of course, but the theory suggests that it can help you stay on your diet to use red flatware. The circumference of the plate may play a part in this as well. This involves an illusion that can help you feel that you are eating more, if you are on a diet that reduces how much food you take in.

If your portions are smaller, they may look just that if you use your old plates. The trick is to trade the old plates for smaller ones for a better visual effect. There is powerful psychology going on here: it influences the person to sense that he is eating the old portions even when he knows he is not.

Another interesting method is to take in cold foods and liquids. Scientists say that it actually requires quite a few calories just to heat the cold stuff you are eating. It might not be much, but it might add up to quite a few calories once you sustain the habit.

Fibrous foods are also advisable. Weight-loss can be aided by the consumption of oranges, for example. They have so much pulpy material in them that they force you to use energy in their digestion.

Another little change you can make is to have a calendar in your office, study, or bedroom that marks what you have been eating. Some psychologists say that an individual will do something less and less if he is told repeatedly (or reminded) of when he last did it. In other words, use that calendar to mark every slip you make in your diet.

Alternatively, mark the last time you ate fast food or junk food on it. It helps to do it such that you can see it from every corner of the room. Individuals should interpret the marks as little prods to stay on track.

Even if you do know all these things about how to lose weight, they will be worth very little if you cannot summon up the strength to do them. Only those who are willing to do everything they can for their aims will succeed. Those who cannot even follow through on a minor program are least likely to succeed.
